Visitor Guidelines for Inpatients

Due to the outbreak of COVID-19 (Coronavirus), Penn Medicine is taking all necessary steps to protect the health and safety of patients, visitors and staff. Effective Saturday November 28th, patient visitation is suspended until the transmission of COVID-19 is no longer a threat to our patients, staff and community.

In certain cases, patient visitors may be allowed based on the narrow exceptions listed below. However, visitors will not be allowed to stay if they:

  • Feel sick
  • Have COVID-19 or flu-like symptoms
  • Tested positive for COVID-19 within the last three weeks
  • Have been in contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 within the last two weeks
  • Have been asked to be on home quarantine or isolation
  • Are under the age of 18

Quay thử miền nam hôm nayExceptions to the visitor policy include:

  • Minors under the age of 18, and those patients with severe behavioral, developmental or neurocognitive disability, may have one visitor, parent, or guardian
  • Patients who are at the end-of-life may have two visitors daily
  • Obstetric patients may be accompanied by one birth support person and a doula
  • Nursery and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) patients may have one birth parent plus one significant other, who must remain in the room for the duration of the visit
  • Patients having same-day surgeries or procedures may have one visitor present briefly before and after surgery. After the postoperative visit, the visitor should leave the hospital.

The following guidelines are intended to maximize patient, visitor and staff safety when visitors are cleared to remain at a loved-one's bedside.

  • All visitors must wear face coverings and complete screening and thermal scanning at entry. Visitors with a temperature of 99 F or greater will not be permitted to visit
  • Admitted visitors must stay in the patient room for the entire visit
  • Visitors may stay overnight. However, if a visitor leaves the hospital, they may re-enter the next day during regular visiting hours (6 am to 10 pm)
  • Visitors may enter and leave the hospital once per day

We encourage you to connect with your loved one virtually through phone or video visits. Your loved one's care team can help set this up. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we work together to keep our community safe.
